Let your friends and family hear how great
your English is getting, introduce your school to the
world, and teach us something that can help us all.
Make a podcast for ESL Radio Show and get heard!
If you or your school would like to submit
a podcast to ESL Radio Show, this is what you need to
know:
1. Shows can be made by one person (a
teacher teaching a point of interest for example) or a
whole group.
2. You should aim for your show to be from
15 to 30 minutes long. Most likely you will edit out a
part of your show, so be aware that you may end up with less than you
originally planned.
3. If you feel your show will run longer
than 30 minutes, consider breaking it into two shows.
4. Ideas for radio shows may be- English
lessons, interviews, newscasts, jokes, role-playing, monologues,
dialogues, presentations, story telling, advice, or
whatever you can come up with, as long as it is of
interest to the ESL community.
5. If this is a school project, you may
give a quick introduction of your school and a website to
reach it, but please don't make a blatant advertisement.
6. Absolutely no vulgar language or
defamation of another person's or group's character, race,
religion, background, etc.
7. Important: while your show will
not belong exclusively to ESL Radio Show, it is solely up
to us whether to publish it or not. Also, we have
the right to publish it at our convenience. Please
be aware that each
published show will have a 30 second sponsorship message
attached to it and an invitation for others to create
their own show.
Now,
here's how you make a podcast!
1. You will need some kind of recording
device. A digital voice recorder will work well, or
you can record directly to your computer. If you
need software to record onto your computer, Audacity
at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is free and will work
nicely. Also, you can use it for editing.
Check your microphone to make sure it produces a nice
sound. Record something by speaking into the
microphone. Then check the quality of the sound.
2. Decide what kind of show you would like
to create. Make a script if needed. Then do a
rehearsal. It's easier to do it right on your
recording than to edit out all of your mistakes.
(But don't worry about some mistakes. They
will happen.)
3. Record your podcast. (It is
better for only one person to handle the microphone
instead of passing it between people. Passing it
around causes a lot of noise.)
4. Edit your podcast. Sorry, but we
can't do it for you. Use Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ if you don't have
other sound editing software.
5. Make sure your podcast is in mp3
or wav
format (mp3 is preferred).
6. Write a short description of your show
for our audience. You can also take a picture of
your group for the blog if you want.
7. Send your completed podcast and
description (and picture if you like) to
sheri@sherisummers.com. Most likely your file
will be too huge to send directly by email. If this
is true, you can either send it in pieces or you can download a free program which will allow
you to send large files at
www.pando.com.
Congratulations!
Now go celebrate and tell everyone you
know to listen to your show!
